Where are we?

We may be found at the beautiful award winning Afton Park Apple Orchard which is situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty near Freshwater Bay close to the western end of the island. The site is surrounded by fantastic countryside and convenient for several beaches and tourist attractions including amongst others The Needles, the River Yar leading to the ancient town of Yarmouth with its picturesque harbour and castle built by Henry VIII, Dimbola Lodge Photography Museum and Farringford, formerly home to Alfred, Lord Tennyson.

The orchard occupies some 2 acres of the 8 acre site which also includes meadow walks and award winning gardens as well as the Farm Shop, licensed Cafe and Plant Nursery. Afton Park is on the edge of the village of Freshwater Bay and is an easy walk from both beach and shops as well as good pubs and restaurants. It is adjacent to the main road to Newport and there are bus stops
at the entrance. Some noise is audible at peak times, although during the day, at night and in the evenings it is usually very peaceful.

Birds and wildlife abound, a resident Barn Owl, Freddie the Cock Pheasant, his mate and chicks, a pair of Jays, Ducks and even the occasional Fox and Badger!

The yurts are set amongst the apple trees, away from, but convenient to the shop and cafe, each with its own outdoor seating area, generally at least 20 ft from its neighbour. We only have 6 guest units on site and no amplified music is allowed as we encourage a restful, relaxing atmosphere and the pace of life is slow.

The site is near a main road and the site is well served by local buses.

We have ample on-site parking for those who need to bring their cars. This is an ideal base from which to explore as much of the islandas you wish or to just enjoy the delights of the immediate area.
