Our family friendly accommodation is really different

Yurts are traditional dwellings in many parts of the world, and are larger and sturdier than most modern camping tents. They are made of thick fireproofed canvas over an attractive wooden frame and offer full headroom. Ours are 16ft in diameter and are beautifully furnished with proper beds (one with a 4 poster),  tables, chairs and many of the comforts of home but with the benefits of the 'Great Outdoors' on your doorstep.

Each yurt sleeps up to 5 people containing a double bed(including one with a four poster), a double futon or day bed and a single camp bed if required.

The yurts have raised wooden floors and are furnished with rugs and mats for comfort. Our bedding is all in natural or low allergy materials and we will provide 100% cotton sheets, pillow cases and duvet covers at an additional cost if required to make your holiday easier. We provide 1 blanket or quilt per bed which is adequate in most temperatures, but if you feel the cold, or are coming at the begining or end of the season, you may wish to bring one or two extra.

Each yurt has a small wood burning stove for warmth which really makes them cosy in the evenings, rainy weather or early mornings-so much more civilised than traditional or 'wild' camping.

Continental breakfast, if required,is available at your yurt by prior arrangement at an extra charge . Each unit has a barbeque/brazier for outdoor cooking and warmth if sitting under the stars, and there is also "The Dome", an undercover communal cooking and eating area with additional gas barbeques for convenience. The Dome is large enough to accommodate all guests in inclement weather and is great for impromptu get-togethers or just for relaxing out of the sun or, perish the thought, rain.

Our wood is sourced from local sustainable woodland or is recycled from local sources, making it carbon neutral. We supply a basket of logs for your first night and after that at a cost of £3 a basket. We also supply a welcome bucket of carbon neutral Isle of Wight charcoal with further buckets available at £3 or large bags available at £7.

The beautiful Freshwater Bay on the Isle of WightWe have no mains electricity on the yurt holiday site, although there is electricity in the cafe and shop, where our Landlords will be pleased to allow you to charge batteries if you ask nicely. This is at your own risk.

Where possible we use solar powered lights, low energy lantern LEDs with rechargeable batteries and candle lanterns to service the site.

We use rechargeable batteries whenever possible. Mobiles may be recharged by solar means or in the shop.

The site provides efficient compost toilets and a comfortable and stylish shower cubicle with wash basin with water heated by dual solar and  woodburning stove.

Hot water can also be collected in jugs provided for use in the traditional wash bowls in the yurts - they also make great baby baths!

At the Orchard, situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, there is a farm shop specialising in organic, gluten free and local produce and a licenced cafe serving delicious home cooked meals and snacks.

The location is near the main road to Newport, on good bus routes, is on main cycle and footpath routes that run around the Island, and bridleways nearby provide wonderful walks and cycle rides. For example there are cliff walks to the Needles via Tennyson Down, to Yarmouth along the river bank and Freshwater Bay through the beautiful  Afton marshes. We are within walking distance of 2 celebrated pubs (The Red Lion and The Beach Bar at The Sandpipers Hotel). There may be some traffic noise at peak periods but the site is generally peaceful especially at night.

About our Yurts

Inside a yurtAll our accommodation is equipped and furnished with everything that you will need for your holiday, cooking utensils, pans, china, proper cutlery and real mugs and wine glasses-even a cafetiere for proper coffee! No setting up tents and blowing up airbeds before you can start your yurt holiday and relax.

You need to bring bed linen and towels unless you wish us to provide these at a small additional charge. You may wish to bring a torch or an additional blanket if staying at the beginning or end of the season. Otherwise you just need to bring your food, drink, etc as with any self catering accomodation.

You can pre order a range of foods from the Fram Shop which we will have ready when you arrive.

Each yurt has a good sized cold box with 2 cold blocks that we replace daily, or twice daily, if requested, in hot weather. We heat hot water for tea and coffee from 7am each morning which is available from large self service flasks, so that there is no time, or energy wasted in getting the first cuppa of the day!

Yurt furnishings may vary from those shown.
